Virginia Mallow, Sida Hermaphrodita

The globally imperiled Virginia mallow is a tall perennial herb with deeply lobed, toothed leaves.  It produces clusters of white flowers from June to October.  Periodically it is found in flooded riverbanks on loose, sandy or rocky soil.  A couple of populations are found on flood plains.  It also thrives locally (becoming the dominant “weed’) along roadsides and railroad banks.
