Kankakee Globe-Mallow, Iliamna remota

The Kankakee globe-mallow is critically imperiled and endemic to the Kankakee River area.  This perennial has pastel pink flowers that bloom in late summer and its leaves resemble those of a maple.  Reportedly, the globe-mallow originated from a single island in the river just south of Chicago.  Its habitat consists of open woods and gravel shores.  The small range of the Kankakee globe-mallow is presently protected and is being managed.
