Frost Cave Isopod, Caecidotea rotunda

The frost cave isopod is a small, eyeless crustacean.  It is critically imperiled in the state of Indiana and throughout its range.  The frost cave isopod is endemic to Indiana and Ohio.  There are less than 1000 individuals remaining in an area of less than 1000 feet of streams.  The isopod lives in cave streams located under rocks.  Threats to the frost cave isopod are habitat disturbance by humans and sewage pollution.
